East Cheshire Branch Bulletin – Action Against CCS
The East Cheshire Branch of Action Against CCS continues to meet every two weeks to share information, discuss concerns, and strengthen a growing local network of residents, professionals, business owners, and landowners affected by the proposed Peak Cluster Pipeline Project.
The branch has been bringing together people from across East Cheshire who are either directly impacted by the route and associated infrastructure, or indirectly affected by the wider environmental, social, business, and land-use implications of the project. These regular meetings provide an opportunity to exchange research, hear local perspectives, coordinate campaign activity, and ensure that community concerns are properly understood and represented.
About the Peak Cluster Project
The Peak Cluster Project is a proposed carbon capture and storage initiative intended to collect carbon dioxide emissions from industrial sites and transport them by pipeline for offshore storage. While the project is being presented as part of wider decarbonisation efforts, it has raised serious concerns among local communities and stakeholders, particularly in relation to:
- the impact of pipeline infrastructure on homes, farms, businesses, and private land;
- potential disruption during construction and long-term land management restrictions;
- environmental and safety concerns associated with the transport of captured CO2;
- the adequacy of consultation and transparency with affected communities;
- broader questions about whether the project places an unfair burden on local areas while offering limited local benefit.
For many in East Cheshire, the issue is not abstract. It concerns the possible effect on livelihoods, property, land value, rural character, environmental quality, and the rights of those whose land and communities may be affected by the scheme.
A growing local campaign
The East Cheshire Branch is continuing to grow a committed team of volunteers and supporters. That team includes people with a wide range of experience and interests, including:
- local residents concerned about the effect on their communities;
- landowners and farmers affected by route proposals and access issues;
- business owners concerned about disruption and local economic impact;
- professionals and technical contributors helping to review documentation, process information, and support public understanding.
This is a community-led effort built on shared concern, practical cooperation, and the belief that those affected by major infrastructure proposals should have a strong, informed, and organised voice.
